Find A Grave Memorial

In Alberta, Canada two beautiful boys were killed by their mother who  drowned them in the bathtub of their own
home. Allyson McConnell, who is originally from Australia, first drowned her children and then tried to kill herself by jumping off of a bridge. Taken to the hospital, Allyson was found to have many broken bones. The parents of the two boys had been in a bitter divorce. Their father is a Canadian man, Curtis McConnell and wanted to bring the children with her back to Australia and that request had been denied by a judge in the divorce case.

Neighbors put teddy bears in front of the house:

"My heart goes out to the family and I think the whole town is just in shock right now"
Michelle Schmidt

An affidavit filed in December by Curtis McConnell said that he was afraid his wife would take their two children
and move to Australia:

"Recently, Allyson has been threatening me that she wants to move back to Australia with
our children. I am completely opposed to this and I am fearful she will attempt to do this without
my consent or knowledge"

The affidavit also stated that the couple had split in November, though they continue to live in the same house
where he was living in the basement and seeking joint custody or sole custody if Allyson decided to move back
to Australia. Curtis was so scared that she would move and not tell him that he had hidden their passports. When
he got home from work on Monday, he found his children dead, in the bathtub full of water. After pulling their little bodies from the water, he ran to a neighbors house and asked for help. Upon entering the bathroom, the neighbor could see that it was too late to help the two boys. Allyson was no where to be found, it was during this time that she had driven her husbands car to a Toys-R-Us and abandoned it there before jumping off of the bridge.

Allyson was charged with two counts of second degree murder. Psychiatrists had examined her and it was determined that she was fit to stand trial. In May of 2011 it was reported that she would stand trial in 2012. On June 4, 2012, Allyson was sentenced to serve six years in prison for murdering her sons, however, Justice Michelle Crighton gave her double credit for the time she had been in a mental hospital, which she had been released from on April 4, 2013 and was she deported to Australia.

Update:

On September 17, 2013, it was reported that Allyson was found dead of an apparent suicide. Allyson's body was found under a bridge in Australia. A person who was passing by the Brian McGown Bridge on Australia's central coast, saw a body on the rocks and it was found to be Allyson who was 35 years old at the time of her death.
