Dustyn Skyler Roff
December 1, 2007 - December 16, 2011
Find A Grave Memorial

Some people say we should not use the word "beautiful" to describe a boy, that we should say handsome. I can say without a doubt that after seeing the pictures of Dustyn Skyler Roff, I consider him to be a beautiful boy. The word handsome just doesn't seem to fit.

A mother, Britni Bereasa Glover stood by and watched as a man beat her four year old, doing nothing to stop the beating or protect her precious son. Michael Allen Seaton was angry with Britni because she had not come home for lunch, so he beat her son. Dustyn complained to his mother that is stomach was hurting, she again did nothing to help him and the next morning, she found her son dead.

Police charged Britni with injury to a child, by omission and at the time were looking for Michael, who was 21 at the time and was being charged with capital murder. Police responded to a report of a dead child and when they found Dustyn to have many injuries and bruises all over his body and he was pronounced dead at his home. HPD Homicide Sergeant Will Gonzales learned that Britni did nothing to stop the beating her son was being given by Michael after they got into an argument:

"We have no reason to believe that Glover assaulted Dustyn, but she didn't stop
the abuse of her child"

Really? No reason to believe that she assaulted her child? It IS assault, in my opinion, to watch someone beat your child and then do nothing when your child complains to you of the pain he is having due to the beating you allowed your boyfriend to give him.

When police asked Britni why she didn't stop her boyfriend from beating her son, she didn't answer. Sergeant
Gonzales said that Dustyn had bruises in various stages of healing which indicated that had been beaten before
on many occasions, probably over several weeks.

The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land
The music stops, yet echoes on in sweet, soulful refrains
For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains

Charles Blake Roff, who is Dustyn's biological father, said that he had been searching for his son for over four months after Britni had taken him and disappeared during a visit. Charles said that he was Dustyn's sole caretaker until she disappeared with him and had been working on getting full custody of his son since they were in the middle of divorce proceedings.

CPS spokesperson Estella Olguin said that there had been two previous reports filed with CPS before Dustyn died that day. In September of 2009, a report was filed that stated Dustyn was being neglected by his mother and the second filed only two months before Dustyn's death was for possible physical abuse. Each time, the reports did not give any information stating where Britni lived:

"Diligent searches were made to locate the child and mother, but CPS was not successful.
Without an address, it does make these cases harder to investigate. Especially when the
children are young and not school age, there wouldn't be a record of school transfers"
Estella Olguin

Charles says that his son was a very loving child:

"I was worried that he was going to get taken by a stranger because he loved everyone.
He would run up to a stranger in the grocery store and give him a hug. My son was
four years old, he wasn't old enough to harm anyone or deserve any of what he
received. There's a lot of things I'd like to say. But all I want is for justice"

Britni was held on $100,000. bond and  has a criminal history charge for prostitution which had been dismissed.
Michael was on probation for a 2009 child injury case and at the time, police believed he had returned to his
hometown of Cameron.

In December of 2011, Michael surrendered in Milam County and was returned to Houston and police were questioning him. Britni made a ridiculous statement to the news:

"I Fee like it was my fault. I should have done something. He was my baby"

SERIOUSLY?  Don't just FEEL that way, realize it, know it and believe it cause you are partly to blame for what
happened to your son. You are just as big of a monster as Michael is. You stood by and watched, probably more than once, as a man BEAT your son and then did NOTHING to help him when he told you he was in pain. Your son is dead, that won't change and can't be reversed. Live with that if you can!

On December 22, 2011, Michael Allen Seaton, appeared before a Harris County Judge and was charged with capital murder for what he did to Dustyn. Britni had said that a week before he died, she came home and found her son with two black eyes which Michael explained by saying that Dustyn had fallen. I wonder, did she bother to ask her son what happened? Britni would continue to leave her son in the care of this man over and over.

On December 15, Britni and Michael were arguing over her not coming home for her lunch break from the day care center where she worked. Britni said that Dustyn walked into the room and Michael backhanded him in the face and Dustyn ran into his bedroom. Michael left for a few minutes and then came back, went to Dustyn's room, grabbed him and started shaking him and then threw him on the floor and started hitting him on his back and his stomach, with his fists. Britni watched and did nothing to help her son. Michael left after he was finished beating Dustyn and though she asked him if he was okay, when he told her about his pain, Britni again did nothing and said that later, Dustyn fell in the bath tub and got another bruise on his head, before going to bed

At about 5:00 a.m., Britni noticed that Dustyn was not breathing and she called for help. A neighbor said that she could be heard screaming:

"I heard this lady screaming "My baby! My Baby! Help! Help!"

The neighbor said she told Britni that the baby was gone and that was it, he was gone.

Assistant Medical Examiner, Dr Merrill Hines, did an autopsy and said that he found at least 100 contusion and many injuries to Dustyn's internal organs concluding that the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries.

Michael was being help with no bond, in the Harris County Jail.

Dustyn's Obituary:

UPDATE:

Today is January 2, 2011 and sickeningly and sadly, I came across a Facebook page for Dustyn's step grandmother, Michael's mother. Seems that she barely grieved before getting on Facebook and getting back to normal in her life. A lot of foul language and constantly saying her son is innocent. Seems to me that when he confessed, she would have picked up on the fact that her son is guilty.

She claims that the charges against him will be dropped or are in the process of being dropped as of December 21, 2011. I have searched for that information and it's not out there any where that I am able to find. This woman also claimed that she "heard" that Britni confessed. I have not been able to find that either.

All I can find is that Michael went to court and Britni will probably get off light for what she allowed to happen to her son. I can tell you that no matter what, if my son was guilty, I would stand by him and love him. though I would never say he was innocent and try to blame someone else. Loving your children doesn't mean you look past the wrongs that they do. You try to help them as much as you can while making them face up to things they have done. Time after time I see the deaths of these children ignored and thrown to the side so that finger pointing as well as denial can take place. It's sad to me that the death of a innocent child can be forgotten so quickly.

Dustyn was murdered on December 16, 2011 and on December 25th, eight days later, his step grandmother posted on her Facebook page:

"Hmmm either santa was drunk or i was a very good girl, i got more presents
than anyone,,,hehehehe"

Here is another article I found. I suppose he's not guilty, in the eyes of his mother, of this abuse of a child either:

On September 17, 2009, with the Honorable Reva Towslee-Corbett presiding, three sentences were handed down in District Court.

Michael Allen Seaton, 19, of Lexinton received 5 years probation for injury to a Child. He was also assessed $3,350. in fines, fees and court costs. He must also take Anger Management and counseling classes and must serve 180 days confinement in Lee County Jail as a condition of probation.

On March 12, 2012, Britni Glover, who was 23 years old at the time, was indicted on a capital murder charge. It was reported that Britni was being charged for intentionally causing Dustyn's death by hitting him with an unknown object. At the same time, it was learned that Britni was no stranger to CPS and  that in the past, she had two reports against her for abuse against Dustyn and when CPS tried to find her for a follow up visit, she had taken her son and disappeared.

UPDATE:

Today is June 15, 2014 and while searching for updates on Dustyn's case, I am unable to find any new information.

UPDATE: September 9, 2014

An e-mail came in stating that Britni was going to court and after checking, I confirmed the information and Britni is scheduled for court on September 16, 2014.

Thank you Elizabeth for updating me on this story.

UPDATE: October 8, 2014

I received an e-mail from a woman named Alice who told me that Britni received a 50 year sentence on October 7, 2014, for what she did to Dustyn.

UPDATE: April 11, 2015

Alice has once again updated me in this case.

On March 31, 2015, Michael Allen Seaton agreed to a plea deal in the case that would allow him to spend on 50 years in prison. Of course in the world today, 50 years will never happen, he'll get time off for good behavior and who knows what else.

Thank you Alice for this update.
