Lamia Al-Ghamdi

- November 2012

In Saudi Arabia, a five year old girl was tortured and abused for months, before she was finally beaten to death. I am not sure what the child's last name would be as I was unable to find it, her name is Lamia and her fathers last name is Al-Ghamdi. The man accused of beating this child to death, IS her father, Faihan al Al-Ghamdi, a former drug addict who is said to now be a preacher on television who frequently talks about how he has managed to turn his life around for the better.

Faihan is reported to have tortured and beaten his daughter for months before she was admitted to the hospital. Doctors found burns which were inflicted using a hot iron, marks consistent with a whip being used and a fractured skull on the this beautiful little girl.

Lamia's mother and Faihan were divorced and there was a custody agreement and  Faihan was to have the child for two weeks of visitation. Faihan did not return Lamia to her mother and it is said that during the time he kept her, Faihan was abusing the girl and her stepmother.

In April, Lamia's mother was called by the public prosecutor who instructed her to go to the Shamisi Hospital. She was shocked by what she found when she saw her daughter:

“He used all sorts of torture and abuse against Lamia. I was shocked and could not believe what
to Lamia when I saw her. I could not believe that is no mercy in people's hearts"

Lamia was in the hospital from April to November before she finally died of a hemorrhage caused by the skull fracture given to her by her father. When the mother asked Faihan why he would do this to her daughter, he just laughed. Some reports say that his new wife had helped in torturing Lamia. Lamia's mother said:

"I appeal for the authorities and human rights groups to support my quest to have my ex-husband
and his wife executed for murdering my daughter"

Faihan Al-Ghamdi was arrested.

In November of 2012 the National Society For Human Rights in Saudi Arabia was speaking out, asking for the death penalty for Faihan Al-Ghamdi for what he did to Lamia:

"We will ask for the capital punishment to help put an end to the series of child killings
by divorced fathers. The whole society should press for the death penalty because it is the
best way to end tragedies involving children"

"I wonder how a father has doubts about his daughter when she is only five. What an excuse
for torture. At this age, she is completely innocent and pure. I am seriously concerned that
there would be claims that the father was going through a critical psychological condition and
that he would be transferred to a hospital and eventually get away with murder. He may also
face just a prison term and lashes. He must be executed"

In February of 2013, after serving a very short sentence in jail, Faihan Al-Ghamdi was ordered to pay what is called blood money, to the mother of Lamia. It was revealed that this monster had doubted that his five year old daughter was a virgin and that is why he beat her. According to hospital staff, whoever abused and beat this little Angel also raped her and tore open her rectum and then attempted to burn it closed.

An Islamic Law says that a man can't be executed for murdering his wife or his children. So the way THEY have it set up, this man raped, beat and tortured his daughter because he thought she was not a virgin at the age of five, she died from the abuse and he's free to go about his life.

In October of 2013, it was reported that Faihan Al-Ghamdi was sentenced to eight years in prison and would also receive 600 lashes. The public was so angry about the death of Lamia that an announcement was made for plans to set up a 24 hour hotline to report child abuse.

Thank you goes out to Deanne for providing me with this update.

UPDATE: November 16, 2014

It was reported in March of 2014, that Fayhan al-Ghanmdi was released from prison after agreeing to pay about $270,000. in "blood money" to his ex-wife, the blood money and the time he served were considered enough punish- ment and he was set free after serving only a few months of his eight year sentence.

Activists for children were upset that this man was able to walk away after what he did to this little Angel. A Twitter account was set up and people were using the hashtag #AnaLama, which means I am Lama, t show their anger about this man not being forced to serve his entire sentence.
