Quinton Tyrone Yates
June 4, 2009 - February 10, 2011
Find A Grave Memorial

In 2007 D.J. Yates was arrested for a plot to kill a teenager, D.J. was given a five year sentence, though it was deferred and that meant after he completed a successful probation period, it would be dismissed. D.J. violated his probation a couple of years later and was given yet ANOTHER suspended sentence, this time of ten years and if he was to violate his probation again,, he would serve ten years. If D.J. had been in prison for the first violation, he would never have been in a position to kill a Quinton Tyrone Yates. When will those in charge of the "legal" system in our country LEARN!?!

In the year 2011, a mother would make a call to 911 at about 2:00 p.m. saying that her son was having some problems. Quinton was transported by ambulance to Integris Baptist Regional Health Center and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving there. Speaking with Jessica Schumacher, his mother convinced Police that they needed to go and arrest Quinton's father, D.J. Yates.

Jessica said that D.J. had woken her up to tell her that he had killed their son. Jessica called 911, but it was too late to save this little Angel. At the hospital, it was discovered that Quinton had been brutally beaten and then burned, by his own father. Quinton's injuries were burns and bruising on his head and they were being called "moral wounds".  The Medical Examiner said that Quinton had died of blunt force trauma. Two other children in the home were removed.

Jayne Schumacher was upset that her nephew had died this way:

"He was just a good kid. He was a happy kid. He was very happy and he was really
lovable. He would always come up and give everybody hugs and he would call all
of us momma and daddy and he loved all of us"

Jayne was now in the process of helping Jessica plan a funeral for this little Angel.

During his first court appearance, D.J. said:

"I'm sorry, I don't know what happened"

Charged with first degree murder, D.J. waived a reading of the charges of against him.

On July 22, 2011, having plead no contest to and having been found guilty of first degree murder, D.J. Ray Yates, who was 23 years old at the time, was sentenced to life without parole for the death of 20 month old Quinton.

"He was a little rough sometimes, but I never thought he would do this to his own son. I'm
really, really going to miss him"
Jayne Schumacher

"I actually saw Quinton and it was a tragedy. He was severely beaten and we're all human
and I have my own son and you can't but think that pain and all of the trauma that child went
through before he died"
District Attorney Wyant
