Hayden Messiah Eldridge
died on January 23, 2015. Doing a search for
information has brought up very little. I am shocked
that it has taken well over a year for anyone to be
arrested for this child's death.
In February of 2016, Wayne D. Jones, who was 27
years old, was indicted on charges of first degree
murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child
neglect. Miranda Alexis Hunt was the 26 year old
mother of Hayden and she was indicted on charges of
first degree murder, aggravated assault, aggravated
child neglect and aggravated child endangerment.
Wayne was being held in a jail in Mississippi while
waiting for extradition to Tennessee. This couple
tried to say that Hayden had died from an allergic
reaction to shrimp that he had eaten.
Hakeem Eldridge is the father of Hayden and he had
split from Miranda before Hayden died. Reports said
that Hakeem adored Hayden and at one point he made a
video of the time they had spent together:
put that together just in memory of him"
In the indictment, authorities stated that they
believed Hayden had been being abused since at least
the beginning of August, four months before he would
die. Hakeem told authorities that he never saw any
signs of abuse on his son, though the relationship
he had with Miranda began to go down hill just a few
months before his death:
day I blame myself. I have my good days and my
bad days. I
look back and I wish I could have changed
certain stuff. It's frustrating"
It was confirmed that the Department Of Children's
Services had been involved in the lives of this
family, though details were not known at the time,
it was believed to be related to children that
Miranda had from a previous relationship. Hakeem
said he heard detectives at the hospital talking
about the situation:
been reports, prior reports, that signs of abuse
or something at
the house. Yeah, I was surprised a little bit"
"They pronounced him passed away, deceased on
January 23, it was a Friday. I
keep him with me. Even though he's not here with
me physically, I keep his stuff
he had or toys or something around. I didn't
think it was the shrimp, I knew it
wasn't the shrimp at all. "
Hakeem said that
with the indictments, he wasn't going to say
that he was happy because more than one life had
been lost over some ignorance and that
everything he had been doing since that day, was
geared towards keeping a promise he made to
"I promised him at the hospital, even though I
never got to see him open his eyes,
that I would let the world know about my son and
what a hero he is to 3 more individuals"
selling wristbands and set up a GoFundMe page to
help raise money for funeral cost.
Hakeem is still mourning the death of Hayden and
says he gets by one day at a time, he had called
Hayden his little side kick. Three other people were
given the gift of life when Hayden's organs were
donated. One of the families who were helped wanted
to meet with Hakeem and he was looking forward to
This story began when a call went out for a child
who was unresponsive. Hayden arrived at Vanderbilt
Medical University Center on January 21, 2015.
Police were told that Hayden had been being taken
care of by Wayne and that Wayne said he had been
eating shrimp and had an allergic reaction.
I have to say that it still NEVER
shocks me when I see people try to lie to cover up
obvious abuse. There are stories in the news almost
on a daily basis that tell of the abuse children
suffer and how their abusers try to cover it up by
saying they fell, or they wrecked on their bike, all
these stupid stories. In the news they always find
out in the end that the child was abused and the
injuries do not look like injuries related to the
stories that are given.
Hayden's case was no different than hundreds of
other children. The abuse suffered by this precious
little boy was obvious to the the Doctors who found
Hayden had a brain injury, that doesn't usually
happen from an allergic reaction. Hayden also had
retinal hemorrhaging which would later be found to
be caused by blunt force trauma, another injury that
isn't common with an allergic reaction.
Sarah Bruner, a Youth Services Detective, was the
lead investigator on Hayden's case and she found a
pattern of abuse had existed before his death.
Results from her investigation were sent to the
District Attorney for a review and possible

Thank you to Amy for helping me by sending me
Hayden's name. I often say this site is a world wide
work in progress. I can make pages, add children and
load them for the world to see, however, without the
help of those who send me the names, send me updates
or just send words of encouragement, this site
wouldn't be half of what it is. Oddly, I even
consider the criticisms to be helpful because they
cause change to happen and at times, change is good.
I welcome any and
ALL comment, suggestions and yes, even
criticisms to help make this page what it is. (I don't so much
welcome the death threats, their kind of a downer
