It's hard to imagine hiding a pregnancy, though women do it every day. Lindsey Lowe was 25 years old when she became pregnant with twins. Lindsey didn't tell her family and didn't visit the doctor at all during her pregnancy.

Police interviewed Lindsey after her father found one of the babies in a laundry basket and called. Lindsey said that the first baby had fallen into the toilet and started crying:

"Lowe stated that the baby was crying and Lowed didn't want her parents to hear and find out
about the child. Lowe stated that she put her hand over the child's mouth and that she stated
that she kept it there until the child was dead, which took was a couple of minutes:

Lindsey said that never even checked to see if the baby was a boy or a girl. A few minutes later, the second baby was born and fell into the toilet. Lindsey again put her hand over the mouth and left it there until the baby was dead, saying that the second time it didn't take as long. After killing her babies, she put them in the laundry basket.

Police are saying that both of the babies seemed to be full term and weighed about five or six pounds and they are not sure how she hid this pregnancy. Police were trying to figure out who the father was. Lindsey worked at a Pediatric Dentists office before she was arrested and charged with first degree murder and was being held without bail. Lindsey was also going to have a medical evaluation.

Police Lt. Scott Ryan said that women who end up with an unwanted pregnancy have many options  such as the safe haven law which would allow newborns to be dropped off in a safe place such as a hospital or police station:

"No matter how bleak the outlook may be for you, let someone help you out"

Lindsey's family contact the Senior Pastor at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church and ask that he come to their home as support during the investigation. This is the church that Lindsey and her sister grew up in. Still a mystery to all involved, other than Lindsey, was the facts behind why she hid the pregnancy from her family.

Police would find out later that even though Lindsey was engaged, her fiancÚ was not the father of the babies and that a man she had cheated on her fiancÚ with, Jeremy Smith, was ruled 99% to be the father, by a DNA test. Lindsey did eventually tell police that she had hid the pregnancy to avoid hurting her fiancÚ and that a member of her family was ill and she didn't want to contribute to the stress of that situation.

In October of 2011, Lindsey was free on bond and after a hearing, her lawyer, John Pellegrin, said that at the
hearing was the first time they had heard of the DNA tests and that Jonathan Brooks, still Lindsey's fiancÚ at that time, was at the hearing. John Pellegrin said that he is sure Lindsey has mental health issues. John also said that he believes the cause of the mental illness may have come on because of the biological changes to her body due to the pregnancy. John added that other Western countries treat neoaticide committed by the mother, as a mental disease.

Oh, then of course she should go free. (insert eyeroll here). She KILLED her babies, knew what was she was doing was wrong or she would NOT have tried to hide it and then two days later went back to work as though nothing had happened.

District Attorney General Ray Whitley commented on telling Jeremy Smith that he was the father of the twins:

"He took it like a man"

Jeremy said he had known of the possibility of Lindsey being pregnant and that they knew each other through their families. At the hearing, prosecutors had asked for Lindsey to be returned to jail because she had tested positive for a Benzodiasepine drug, which would be Valium or Lithium. A bond hearing was set for the next week. John Pellegrin said that a hearing will most likely not be necessary since he can show that Lindsey was not taking any kind of medication that is not prescribed to her.

Also in October, Lindsey's case was held over for the grand jury. In court were her family some friends. John
Pelligren stated that he was considering an insanity defense and prosecutors are considering asking for the death penalty. Lindsey's grandparents had put up their home as collateral to pay for her $250,000. bond back in September and she was released on supervised bond.

There was a private ceremony to bury Mark Alvin Michael and Paul Duvoll Tate Lowe which Lindsey attended. Members of their church held a public vigil for the twin boys.

The grand jury was scheduled for November 7, 2011.

In November of 2011, a Grand Jury indicted Lindsey on six counts which included aggravated child abuse
and murder. The district attorney decided not to seek the death penalty. Lindsey's lawyer entered a plea
of not guilty during a court hearing on November 18. Lindsey was free on bond at that time.

UPDATE: June 8, 2012

Lindsey is set to go to court on March 13, 2013, for killing her twin boys. Lindsey is still out on bond and living
with her parents until the case is decided. A judge has said that he will allow two weeks for the trial.

UPDATE: March 13, 2013

In Gallatin Tennessee, the trial of Lindsey Lowe has started. It was discovered that Lindsey had made no plans at all in order to provide for the birth of her babies, had not been under the treatment of a doctor for prenatal care and had bought nothing to show she was going to give birth and raise these precious Angels. Lindsey had even attended a wedding as the bridesmaid on the weekend before she gave birth and was seen having a good time. It is stated that Lindsey had no intentions at all of raising these babies since she made no arrangements for them to be home with her after their birth. During his opening statements, the Prosecuting Attorney said:

"Miss Lowe made no preparation for the births of these children no one was going to interfere
with her life"
Assistant District Attorney General - Ron Blanton

"Lindsey Lowe was pregnant, but she refused to accept it, her mind refused to accept it.
Defense Attorney - John Pellegrin

John Pellegrin said in his opening statement that Lindsey didn't know what was happening when she finally went into labor.

"She thinks her internal organs are coming out"
John Pellegrin

John Pellegrin said that Lindsey didn't know what she was saying when she told police that she had killed her
babies by placing her hand over their mouths until they stopped breathing. John said that police had some how
managed to plant that idea in her head. Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against Lindsey for killing her sons.

In April of 2013,  Lindsey Lowe, having been convicted of felony murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse, was sentenced to a minimum of 51 years in prison, which was 25 years each on the charges. The sentences would be served at the same time, meaning she would serve about 25 years.
