This turned out to be a break
for Vin when they were caught and offered a chance to make $20. a week
and work in the theater. At the age of 17
he decided to become a bouncer
to earn extra money, this is when he
changed his name to Vin Diesel.
After High School, Vin enrolled
at Hunter College as an English major, however, he dropped out after only
three years to get serious about
his acting career. After
trying for two years, Vin returned to New York.
It was at this time that
his mother gave him a book called "Feature Films
At Used Car Prices". After
reading the book, Vin decided to take control
of his own career, he also
decided to make his own movies.
His first movie, in 1994,
was as short called "Multi Facial". Shooting of
this movie took less than
three full days and cost about $3,000., it was
accepted for the 1995 Cannes
Film festival.
Vin returned to Los Angeles
and managed to raise $50,000. to start
work on his first feature
movie, Strays, which was done in 1997. This
film was accepted for the
1997 Sundace Film Festival receiving a good
reception, though not selling
as he wished it would have.
Vins big break came when Steven
Spielberg saw and was impressed by
his movie Multi-Facial. Vin
had returned to New York when he received
a phone call about how impressed
Steven Spielberg was with his work,
Steven Speilberg wanted to
meet Vin. This is when the role of Private Caparzo in "Saving Private Ryan,
was created for Vin. From there, he
went on to star in several
films and even did the tile role in the animated
film "Iron Giant". The rest...is
history and it's all good.
In 1995, Vin Diesel ranked
as #95 on Premiere's annual Power 100 List.
In 2003, he ranked #46 on
the same list.
